Name: Aaron Abelkop 6/08/1892-7/28/1928
Family: Wife, Edith Swartz, children, Sheldon and Milton
Aaron was the son of Harris Abelkop. He followed the family tradition in his career, first peddling and then setting up a clothing store in Warsaw, NC. But He also broke tradition, deciding to Americanize his name by changing the surname to “Apple.” When he was buried in the Hebrew Cemetery, someone in the family obviously didn’t like the change. Nowhere on the headstone can be found the word Apple. His name for all eternity was inscribed as Aaron Abelkop.
