Family: Married to Louis, she had 13 children, 5 of whom died at childbirth or as young children.
Sophia came over from Poland when she was 16. She was always giving, even-tempered and had a saintly disposition. People always felt they could talk to her. She was very observant. When a doctor recommended that she get an abortion because of her health, she refused because it went against her beliefs. She was active in the Jewish community and was treasurer for the women's committee to help furnish the synagogue built in 1920.
She died of cancer and other medical complications at the age of 67. Though later in life she was frequently ill, she bore her illnesses gracefully without complaining.
