Lena Wilson, or her mother-in-law Anna, (there is some controversy), was the first president of Hadassah. Lena was also in charge of the Ladies' Aid Society in the 1930's. The Depression was a difficult time for all, including the Jewish community. The Ladies' Aid Society was helpful in keeping the synagogue solvent, paying the synagogue's street assessment and heating bills, and contributing to the mortgage payments.
