According to her nephew Bob Silver, Jean was the "toughest of all" the eight children of Rosa and Herman Silver. . Jean hellped her mother Rosa manage their real estate holdings and was the collector of rents. She also owned and ran a small bar. No one got away with not paying, including Bob when he would stop by for a drink. Bob remembers she always had an unlit cigarette dangling from her mouth.
For much of her adult life she and her husband lived on Minerva Street with her mother Rosa and her sisters Pat and Sadie.
