Pearl lived and worked in New York, and she performed retail sales as well as secretarial work at City College of New York Pearl lived in New York all her life, but she eventually moved down to North Carolina with Lewis to live with their son and step daughter.

Those who knew Pearl described her as quiet, but kind and generous. She had a sweet personality, and the most important thing to Pearl was her immediate family. Her greatest joy was being a mother and a nana.
