Eva Fox was born in Russia. When she was 12 years old, Russian pogrom came to her town. . As she and her older sister were attempting to escape,, the sister was shot in the back. The sister was able to call out to Eva to keep running.
When she arrived in the United States, she was taken in by a family in Rockingham, N.C. who mistreated her. When a Moyel, Rev. Glick, from Richmond, Va. traveled to that community; he invited her to Richmond to visit with him and his wife. They all became fast friends and the Glicks asked Eva to live with them.. For the rest of her life, Eva identified herself as a "Glick".
Eva met Nathan when he visited in Richmond. He had also been born in Russia and settled in Durham with his brother, Max. He eventually opened the Capitol Furniture and Appliance store with Sam Daniels. He also opened Allen's Jewelry Store on Main Street. His businesses were very successful. Both Eva and Nathan were very active in the Jewish community, he in Synagogue affairs and she in the Sisterhood. Eva had a wonderful sense of humor and for many years participated in a womenÕs skit that was put on in Yiddish as part of the annual Purim program.
Nathan died of leukemia. Six weeks after his death, Eva visited the Glicks and died there of a cerebral hemorrhage.
