Name: Isaac Louis Slifkin 1895-12/2/1983
Family: Wife, Eva, son, Larry
Isaac's family snuck out of Poland by bribing the guards. They were loaded up in a cart covered with hay. His job was to keep the younger children quiet.
Slifkin grew up in Bluefield, W. Va. where his father was the rabbi. He had several different jobs. He worked for the railroad, but was supportive of unions and lost his job. He ran a cigar stand in Bluefield, managed a short order restaurant and later sold pensions. The pension business failed during the Depression, and he moved to New York City, where his wife's family found him a job.
Slifkin moved down to North Carolina to be closer to his family.
