Sarah and her husband, Max, owned a furniture store in a four-story building on Main Street. Max also owned lots of real-estate. When he died in 1916, he left her well off and she furnished and decorated the 1921 Beth El Synagogue, according to Jewish historian Leonard Rogoff.
