Name: Rebecca Nurkin 10/22/1875-11/15/1952
Family: Husband, Harry Abraham, children, Jacob, Leo, Susie, Elizabeth and Michael.
Rebecca was a strong woman who fought for what she believed. In 1908, The Durham Morning Herald described an incident in which Rebecca was accused by Cora Morris of stealing a chicken. This was during a period of economic hardship when community tensions were exacerbated. Nurkin gave Morris a terrible beating and both were hauled before the judge.
